KUALA LUMPUR: Top Glove Corp Bhd has increased the remediation sum it would pay to its migrant workers to RM136mil.
"The migrant workers will receive remediation over the next 10 months, from October 2020 onwards," the glove maker said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia today.
Top Glove had earlier made the first two remediation payments in August and September 2020.
"The remediation will now be based on the revised sum of approximately RM136 million, in accordance with recommendations by the independent consultant, following the completion of the independent consultant’s comprehensive verification work," it said.
Top Glove also said that it has submitted the necessary information to the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and is following up closely with them, with a view to an expeditious resolution of the matter and revocation of the Withhold Release Order.
The US CBP had placed a detention order on imports from two subsidiaries of Top Glove since July, an action taken on firms suspected of operating with forced labour.
