Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said that the cabinet has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Finance to acquire four highways in the Klang Valley.
Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said in the 2020 Budget that the Cabinet has approved the proposed acquisition by the Ministry of Finance (MoF) of four highways in the Klang Valley - the Kesas Expressway, the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP), and Sprint. The government will pay RM6.2 billion to purchase the four roads.
Lim said the planned introduction of congestion charges on the highway will reduce the toll rate by up to 30% at peak and normal times and free during off-peak hours.
Lim said that the acquisition will not increase the burden on the government because the financing, operation and maintenance costs will come from the collection of tolls and traffic congestion fees.
He said that on the PLUS, the tolls on all its highways are on average 18% cheaper.
Lim said towards aligning the toll rates between the first and second bridges in Penang consistent, from January 2020, the car charges for the second bridge in Penang will be reduced from RM8.50 to RM7.00
