World’s first ‘fly and drive car’ ready by 2021

Posted on:

The technology has been in development for more than a century, but the world's first "flying and driving car" will debut in Miami, Florida, on Tuesday night.

This aircraft, called the Pioneer Personal Air Lander (PAL-V), is equipped with a retractable overhead and rear propeller that can cruise at altitudes up to 12,500 feet.

It uses car gasoline and has a top speed of 200 miles per hour in the air and a top speed of 100 miles per hour on the ground.

This Dutch-made machine is already in production and is currently priced at $ 599,000. 70 units have been booked to date and the first delivery is expected in 2021.

PAL-V will be exhibited at an event called "Miami 2020 and Beyond."

The aircraft can accommodate two people, with a power of 230hp and a four-cylinder engine.

This two-seater car can be converted from a tricycle to a rotorcraft in just 10 minutes and can accelerate from 0 mph to 60 mph in 8 seconds.

Maxim magazine selected PAL-V in 2017 as the company most likely to provide "real" flying cars, and two years later, that prediction came to fruition.

Robert Dingemanse, CEO of PAL-V, announced in an earlier statement: "After years of hard work, overcoming technical and qualification challenges, our team has successfully created an innovative flying car The flying car complies with existing safety standards, which are determined by aircraft regulatory agencies. World. '

"Although the concepts of other flying car manufacturers require revised regulations and in many cases are not yet prior art, PAL-V has deliberately selected to design, design and manufacture flying cars with proven technology and full compliance with current regulations.

It is made of carbon fiber, titanium and aluminum and weighs 1,500 pounds. It takes 540 feet of runway for takeoff and 100 feet for landing.

The aircraft is equipped with a control system similar to a motorcycle, which depends on the driver using the joystick to tilt the vehicle on the ground and in the air.

"Flying cars have appeared in the movie many times and will be released next year," Dingmans told the Associated Press.

The cheaper version next-Pal-V Liberty Sport-is $ 335,000.

The company designed the car so that with a single touch, the blades can be folded up and gathered on top like bat wings.

It incorporates a breakthrough in 2005 when the Dutch company Carver invented a tilt system for tricycles to offset the high center of gravity of the Pal-V and make it driveable.

The company insists that the Pal-V is not a helicopter, with its blades powered by an engine, but a rotorcraft, where the blades rotate under the action of airflow.

The blades will rotate even if both engines are disconnected.

"The rotor doesn't have power, so Dingmans told the Associated Press that it's actually a ready-to-use parachute."

The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Japan, China and the United States are developing different versions of the aircraft.

The lucky owner will need a driver's license and a pilot's license.

But with the key, the owner will be able to drive to the airport for a short takeoff, and after landing to another place, they can drive to the destination with a door-to-door experience.

Parts have been ordered, the first is already in stock.

Once completed, the vehicle will have to complete at least 150 hours of flight time and undergo extensive testing to obtain certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in Cologne.

Once determined, this will enable them to certify in accordance with US FAR 27 regulations.

The 27-gallon gasoline tank provides a range of 248 to 310 miles at an altitude of up to 11,500 feet.

On the road, it can travel 750 miles.

"This dream has been around for 100 years," Chief Marketing Officer Markus Hess said in an interview with AFP last year.

‘When the first plane was invented, people had thought‘how can I make it pilotable on the road?
