ARIF Komis is a Turkish chemistry teacher who works at an international school in Kuala Lumpur. He lives with his wife and four daughters.
A widely circulated photo shows that six of them looked like a happy family, with the eldest daughter taking a selfie with a smiling family, while the youngest daughter is still small and can be carried by her doting father.
The Malaysian government recently decided to make Komis a "terrorist" wanted by Turkey, extradite him and expel him back to Turkey.
Komis is alleged to be associated with a media agency like Feto, like Berama.
Feto is an abbreviation for Fethullahist Terrorist Organisation. Not surprisingly, the term was coined by the Turkish government, led by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to describe Turkish missionary Fethullah Gulen Supporters.
Not surprisingly, no supporters consider themselves to be members of an "organization" that contains the term "terrorist".
A rather unfamiliar territory for Malaysian politicians seems to see Erdogan as some sort of god-giant among global leaders.
These people include Malaysians, otherwise you might think they have improved and supported concepts such as human rights and justice to at least some extent.
It seems hypocritical to praise Erdogan while supporting such values.
Erdogan is one of many politicians who may have started work decently, but ended up in the kind of barbaric authoritarianism they had originally intended to replace.
No wonder the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees classified Komis as an asylum seeker and a concern because of what he will face in Turkey.
Amnesty International records shocking reports of brutal torture in Turkey during the Erdogan period, especially after the coup in 2016:
"... Turkish detainees were beaten and tortured, including rape .... Police placed detainees under pressure and refused to give them food, water and medical treatment. Detainees were verbally abused, threatened and beaten and tortured Including rape and sexual assault. "
Erdogan's fanatical hobby even appeared overseas in Washington, D.C., where bodyguards beat demonstrators in front of the Turkish embassy during the day.
This is Turkey where Malaysia sent Comis, his wife and his four daughters back to Malaysia.
When Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad questioned this, he replied:
"I know nothing about torture in Turkey. Do we want to accuse Turkey of being tortured? Do you have any evidence?"
Mr. Prime Minister, there is enough evidence. The simplest Google search will produce more evidence than the evidence you read in a week.
However, there is not much evidence to make any difference to those ruthless people or governments who close their eyes to the truth.
I may even agree that if you deport Dr. Zakir Naik to India, he may not get a fair trial. But if you say that public figures like Dr. Zakir Naik will be treated worse in India than Turkey's Arif Komis, I believe the existing evidence will be very the opposite.
With regard to Erdogan, here are some similarities with Dr. Mahathir's "love" of the late Robert Mugabe.
Mugabe is famous for its anti-colonial stance, and Erdogan was a shining example of modern Muslim power.
But we should never let a strong start blind us in case someone who was once a great man begins to fall into authoritarianism, brutality, and brutality. This is the path Mugabe and Erdogan have taken.
Dr Mahathir's grandson or great grandson may be the same age as the four Komis girls. If one of them was suspected of treason by the Erdogan government, do you think Dr. Mahathir would be so understatement and ignorant of what happened in Ankara's dark torture basement?
His recent comments on MH17 in Russia are equally shocking. The Star:
Tun Mahathir Mohamad said Malaysia is skeptical of some of the findings of the Dutch-led Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 crash.
In an interview with the satellite news agency in Moscow, Russia, the prime minister said that some of the findings of the United News Agency did not appear to be "completely correct."
"I have no doubt about their authenticity. But they claim that there is something-it is difficult for us to accept .... to determine the missile-yes. The area where it happened-can be verified.
"But it is very difficult to determine who actually fires, which is usually performed."
We can only imagine that Russian President Vladimir Putin laughed after successfully manipulating another foreign leader to do what is best for Russia.
Putin is not polite. He "generously" brought hope to the development of the University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in his own way, like the bone of a well-behaved dog.
